This article details the real reasons why Maryam Shetty was replaced with Mariya Mahmoud and the role Ganduje played.
The unexpected happened on Friday, August 4, when President Bola Tinubu replaced ministerial nominee, Maryam Shetty with Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure.
Ms Shetty was included on the second batch of the president’s ministerial list which was released on Wednesday.
According to a report by Daily Trust, there are insinuations that Shetty was replaced because she (Shetty) was not in the former governor’s camp. Ganduje, former governor of Kano State is a key ally of President Tinubu.
Another reason that Ganduje sought and secured her replacement was that she had been vocal in the past against some of his (Ganduje’s) policies.
She was replaced by Mahmoud, her classmate from JSS 1 to JSS 3 at Kano Foundation Secondary School, and later at the Bayero University, Kano.
The duo also shared the faculty of Medical Sciences and took some courses together. Shetty read Physiotherapy while Mahmoud read Medicine and Surgery.
Mahmoud was one of the commissioners close to the then-first family during Ganduje’s tenure.
She is also a friend of Amina Ganduje, one of the influential daughters of the present National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Amina Ganduje was also a Medical Doctor who graduated from the University of Maiduguri and worked with Mahmoud at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).
Many had faulted the choice of Shetty who has a huge following on social media. Some had described her as a mere Tik Toker.
Unshaken by the criticisms, Shetty arrived at the upper legislative chamber in a wine-colored headgear and black burqa on Friday to meet news that her name had been withdrawn.
