A Profile On The New Acting DG Of PenCom

It is no longer news that Ms Omolola Oloworaran has been appointed the new Director-General of the National Pension Commission(PenCom) by President Tinubu.

She takes over from Aisha Dahir-Umar who was appointed by ex-President Buhari in 2020.

Oloworaran brings over 20 years of extensive work experience in the financial services industry making her the perfect fit for this high-profile position.

Prior to her recent appointment, she was Group Head, First Shared Services at First Bank.

Here are some things to know about her.

1. Omolola Oloworaran is an accounting graduate from the University of Ilorin.

2. She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Manchester Business School.

3. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI) and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

4. She began her career at Citigroup in Treasury Operations where she worked from June 2004 to March 2008.

5. At Renaissance Capital, Oloworaran served in various capacities as Finance Manager and Senior Specialist between Mar 2008 and April 2013.

6. She was a consultant at  FDHL Group from May 2013 to November 2013.

7. From November 2013 to Jan 2016, she was the Head of Global Market Operations at Stanbic IBTC. She was also Head of the International Business Center from Jan 2016 to Jun 2019.

8. She was appointed Head of Transaction Banking Operations at First Bank in June 2019.

9. Oloworaran is known for playing a pivotal role in several stakeholder collaborations and Central Bank initiatives at the various banks she worked which include

  • the introduction of federal government bonds and treasury bills trading in 2006

  • implementing internal policy documents for margin trading in 2008, developing market guidelines and accounting entries for repo trading in 2013

  • deploying the improved Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) SWIFT-based settlement system, the Scripless Securities Settlement System (S4) in 2013, and the introduction of the e-Naira, among other initiatives.

10. She is a recipient of the First Bank Group CEO’s Award in 2022 and the Beyond Excellence Award in Stanbic IBTC.

 11. She completed a program in Transforming Business Using AI from the Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires (INSEAD), a graduate business school in 2023.
