Sister of Canadian singer, Celine Dion says no medicine works for her Stiff Person Syndrome
Celine Dion’s sister, Claudette Dion, provided an update on the singer’s health following the diagnosis of stiff person syndrome (SPS).
The talented Canadian singer revealed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with SPS.
SPS is a rare neurological illness that mimics an autoimmune disease and causes uncontrollable muscle tension.
While there is no cure for SPS, there are treatments — including anti-anxiety medicines and muscle relaxants — that can slow down its progression.
The autoimmune disease had also forced the singer to cancel her world tour that was scheduled for this year.
Speaking with SheMazing, Claudette said the family has not found “any medicine that works”.
Claudette said the 55-year-old songstress is being cared for by one of their sisters. She added that they are working closely with researchers who specialize in the rare condition.
“When I call her and she is busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and she tells me that she is working hard,” she said.
“She is listening to the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible. I honestly think that she mostly needs to rest. She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game.
“At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It is important to listen to it. It is innate to her, she is disciplined in every area of her life.
“We can not find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.”
