Chidinma Adetshina has opened up on her Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 win. The newly crowned queen shared her experience about winning the crown in a recent interview with BBC Pidgin.
When asked how she feels to be Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, she said:
“I feel amazing, it is an honour to be wearing the sash, I am so excited and I am so proud of myself as well”.
On how she felt on the stage when her name was called as the winner of the competition, she said she felt nervous throughout the day in the hours leading to the announcement of the winner.
“When I heard my name called, I had a sense of relief, a sense of accomplishment… It was a very powerful moment for me,” she revealed, reflecting on the moment she was announced as the winner”, Chidinma
She also went into detail about why she accepted the invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria.
According to her, she had always wanted to be a beauty queen even though initially she had some reservations about pageantry as she thought it was only for young girls.
However, after learning more about it in 2017, she became intrigued and decided to sign up for Miss SA in 2022. She didn’t get accepted but was determined to try again in 2024 and this time, she made it Top 50 and was able to progress to the Top 10 before the issues surrounding her identity began. This eventually led to her withdrawal from Miss South Africa 2024.
Despite feeling hesitant about accepting the Miss Universe Nigeria invitation after the Silverbird group reached out, as it came so soon after her withdrawal from the Miss SA pageant, her resilience pushed her to take on the challenge.
