Dorothy Hoffner, a 104-year-old woman has died after attempting to set a Guinness record for the world’s oldest skydiver.

Dorothy Hoffner Dies After Attempting Skydiving RecordJust a few days after potentially setting a new world record for the oldest person to skydive, a 104-year-old woman, Dorothy Hoffner has passed on.

“Age is just a number,” Dorothy Hoffner told the Chicago Tribune, after leaping from a plane last Sunday.

Hoffner became a viral sensation after her record-breaking jump from 13,500 feet on October 1.

Joe Conant, A close friend of Hoffner’s, said she was found dead Monday morning (Oct 9) at the Brookdale Lake View senior living community. She appeared to have died in her sleep. “She was indefatigable. She just kept going,” he said Tuesday.

On Sept. 30, Hoffner ditched her walker and instead boarded a Skyvane plane in Ottawa, Illinois, 85 miles south of Chicago.

It was her second time parachuting from a plane. She first went skydiving when she was 100 and had to be pushed out of the plane. This time around, she joyfully led the tandem 13,500-foot jump.

Guinness World Records is still working to confirm if Hoffner broke the record for the oldest person to jump from a plane. The previous record was set by 103-year-old Swedish Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson in 2022.
