Wigmaker, Helen Williams again sets the GWR for the world’s widest wig.
Nigerian wigmaker, Helen Williams, has set a new Guinness World Record for the widest wig in the world.
According to the global record’s body, Williams crafted a hairpiece that’s 3.65 m (11 ft 11 in) wide and trails to the floor equivalent in length to a mini Cooper car, which is 3.63 m (11 ft 10 in) long.
The 31-year-old professional wig maker started working on her latest record-breaking masterpiece in February, which took over a month to complete.
She used over 800 bundles of auburn hair, spending 4,138,200 Naira ($2,719; £2,150) on the materials. She made the wig majorly by hand but also used a sewing machine for some parts. She stitched it all together on the framework with needle and thread and attached over 1,000 rhinestones to it.
Speaking on her achievement, Helen said:
“I am very proud of myself. I now hold three records. “As a professional wig maker, I look forward to breaking many more records in the wig category. I enjoy taking on difficult tasks, it makes me a better person and I learn new things.”
Williams reveals that she got inspiration from actress and talk show host, Drew Barrymore, a former record holder. “I am a big fan of Drew Barrymore. She also inspired me,” she noted.
With this new feat, she now officially holds three records, including setting a new record for putting in 90 hair clips in a wig in 30 seconds and for the longest handmade wig.
