Justice Dije Aboki has been sworn in as Kano’s first female Chief Judge by Gov. Abba Yusuf.

Aboki was sworn in on Monday, August 7 at the government house weeks after her confirmation as Chief Judge.

The governor emphasised the importance of cooperation between the judiciary and other arms of government, adding that the relationship between the three arms “is not competitive, but complementary”.

“Justice Aboki has paid her dues in the temple of justice and through experience, talent, and patriotism, she is by the grace of God elevated as the chief judge of the state,” he said.

“While I congratulate you on this well-deserved appointment, may I also remind my Lord that this task is a daunting one which calls for total dedication and commitment for the peace, progress and stability of Kano state and Nigeria at large.

“Having spent your public life within this sector, no one can lecture you on what the citizens expect from you as the head of this very important arm of government.”

Speaking on the challenges of justice dispensation, Yusuf said there is a need to address violent crimes promptly, adding that “when such cases are dealt with expeditiously and those found guilty are punished, it will deter others hoping to engage in criminal acts”.

In her response, the chief judge expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the state and pledged to uphold integrity, honesty, and justice in her role.

“We will restore the lost glory of the judiciary in our state,” she said.
