Maureen Achebe Wins Harvard Medical School Award

Maureen, daughter of late renowned novelist, Chinua Achebe has received the 2024 Faculty Development and Diversity Award from Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The hospital, a world-class academic medical center based in Boston, Massachusetts is a premier teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.

Her brother, Chidi Achebe made the announcement via a LinkedIn post dated July 2. In the post, he shared a letter from the hospital which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School notifying Maureen of the award.

Expressing gratitude, He wrote: To God be the Glory Always! Ekenedili Chukwunna! Very big deal at Harvard! All Glory to God!

Maureen Okam-Achebe earned her first medical degree from the Port Harcourt Medical School. She also has a Master’s in public health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a hematology and medical oncology training at Yale School of Medicine.

She holds multiple prestigious roles, including President of AIDE Healthcare International, Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, Director of the Outpatient Infusion Centre at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Clinical Director of the Non-Malignant Hematology Clinic, and Director of the Sickle Cell Programme at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

She is triple-board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine.

Achebe will be officially honoured as a recipient on October 28, 2024.
