Oppo Find N2

Design

The Find N2 joins the ranks of slim foldable smartphones with its sleek dimensions, measuring 132.2 x 140.5 x 7.4 mm when unfolded and around 132.2 x 72.6 x 14.6 mm when folded. This design choice makes it exceptionally portable and easy to slip into tight pockets or small bags.

It has a tall-and-thin design with a skinny outer display, the Oppo Find N2 is comfortable to use and type on one-handed, even for users with small hands. Additionally, the right-side-mounted fingerprint sensor allows easy unlocking when closed with one hand, making it more convenient to use than some other flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 or iPhone 14.

The device features a textured finish that enhances grip, preventing it from slipping out of your hand. Its black color gives it a subtle and sophisticated appearance. The hinge mechanism is smooth, and the Oppo logo on the shiny spine adds a touch of branding.

Meanwhile, the external cover display features a 5.54-inch AMOLED panel that immediately captures attention. Opening the Find N2 reveals a large 7.1-inches AMOLED display with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, a sharp 2,520 x 1,080-pixel resolution, and an impressive peak brightness of 1,600 nits. The matte finish on the screen minimizes reflections and ensures comfortable readability even in outdoor settings, although the inevitable crease is somewhat noticeable when interacting with the touchscreen.

Just like a Motorola Razr+, the screen does away with the “crease.” The folding action of the device is described as satisfying, and Oppo claims it can endure up to 400,000 folds, ensuring long-term usability. However, it’s worth noting that the phone lacks an IP rating for water resistance and may accumulate pocket lint and smudges on the matte finish over time.

Display

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 that comes with a large 7.6-inch main display and  a 6.2-inch AMOLED cover display, the Oppo Find N2 has a 7.1 inches foldable LTPO AMOLED main display and cover display measuring 5.54 inches.

The main display comes with a 1792 x 1920 pixels resolution with a rapid 120Hz refresh rate, that ensures smooth and responsive touch interactions, making it suitable for scrolling through content and multitasking. It also offer support for HDR10+ which delivers vibrant colors and deep contrasts, enhancing the visual experience.

Furthermore, this display has an impressive peak brightness of 1550 nits and 1200 nits (HBM) that ensures excellent outdoor visibility, even in bright sunlight. The Oppo Find N2 display has a near bezel-less design maximizing the immersive aspect of the display, with an ~87.3% screen-to-body ratio.

On the exterior, there is a cover display measuring 5.54 inches. This AMOLED screen may be smaller but still offers vibrant colors and deep blacks. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2120 pixels, and 120Hz refresh rate that ensures fluid and responsive touch interactions, contributing to a seamless user experience.

The cover display shines with a peak brightness of 1350 nits and 1000 nits (HBM), making it easily readable in various lighting conditions. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, enhancing its durability and resistance to scratches.

Camera

The Oppo Find N2 features a triple camera just like most foldable and flagship smartphones in the market. Starting with the 50MP primary camera which employs a Sony 1/1.56″ sensor with Quad Bayer technology and 1.0µm pixels. It comes with an optical image stabilization (OIS), a 24mm equivalent focal length, and a wide f/1.8 aperture, hence, this camera excels in low-light conditions and provides effective image stabilization for steady shots.

Meanwhile, the greatest improvement in the camera is made on the telephoto camera. Oppo has equipped it with a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor, featuring a larger 1/2.74″ sensor size compared to its predecessor. This change can be seen as somewhat of a trade-off, as it retains the 2x zoom but offers a larger sensor for potentially improved daylight shooting. It also has an RGBW color filter and pixel binning that produce 8MP images in order too add versatility to the telephoto lens.

Moving to the ultrawide camera, it now incorporates a Sony IMX581 Quad Bayer sensor with a substantial 1/2.0″ optical format and 0.8µm pixels. What sets this apart is the introduction of autofocus (AF), enabling closeup shots and greater flexibility in framing. The lens’s quoted 14mm equivalent focal length and f/2.2 aperture make it suitable for wide-angle photography, promising improved versatility.

For selfies, the Find N2 incorporates two identical 32MP Samsung-sourced selfie cameras, each integrated into one of the displays. These cameras use JD1 Tetrapixel sensors with a 1/3.14″ optical format and 0.7µm pixels. They are paired with fixed-focus 22mm-equivalent f/2.4 lenses, delivering sharp and detailed self-portraits.

Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with Hasselblad, instead of relying on gimmicky features or special modes, this camera now focuses on delivering consistent and impressive results across a range of shooting scenarios.

Hardware and Software

The Oppo Find N2 is powered by the Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a cutting-edge processor built on a highly efficient 4nm manufacturing process. This chipset combines both robust processing capabilities and energy efficiency, ensuring smooth and responsive performance for various tasks.

Beneath the surface, the android phone boasts an octa-core CPU configuration with three tiers of cores, including a high-performance 3.0 GHz Cortex-X2 core, balanced 2.75 GHz Cortex-A710 cores for everyday tasks, and power-efficient 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 cores, promoting extended battery life across various usage scenarios. Compare to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor the Oppo Find N2 chipset is still lacking.

For graphics processing, the Oppo Find N2 relies on the Adreno 730 GPU, which ensures smooth and immersive gaming and multimedia experiences. Meanwhile, the Find N2 provides two memory and storage configurations, offering either 256GB of storage with 12GB of RAM or a more spacious 512GB of storage with 16GB of RAM, both benefiting from rapid UFS 3.1 storage technology for enhanced performance; however, there’s no option for external storage expansion via a memory card slot, necessitating careful selection of the preferred storage capacity.

Furthermore, the Find N2 features a 4,520 mAh battery, which  which may not be the largest amidst flagship devices. However, thanks to the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the device should offer improved battery life compared to its predecessor. The phone supports 67W wired charging and 10W reverse wired.

In addition, this foldable device runs on ColorOS 13, based on the Android 13 operating system. Meanwhile, Oppo promised 4 years of major updates and 5 years of security patches, which is a most welcome development.
