Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson has got the internet talking with excerpts from her 263-page book which comes in 20 chapters.
The successful and talented actress-turned-author launched her self-titled memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ at Peduase Valley Resort, an event attended by numerous celebrities and entrepreneurs on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
The book opens the door widely into the life of the author and exposes the good, the bad and the ugly sides, not only of her life but also of the make-believe world of celebrities.”
Since its release, the book has been the centre of controversy sparking reactions on the internet.
From her abortion with Sarkodie to her father’s identity, here are some chapters that have set the internet on fire from Yvonne Nelson’s book.
1. Not knowing the identity of her biological father
Yvonne Nelson never hid her distaste for her father, Oko Nelson whom she often called a deadbeat father.
In a shocking twist, which she revealed in a chapter of her book, Nelson said her mother opened up to her that her biological father was the late Peter Ala Adjetey who was the second Speaker of Ghana’s 4th Parliament of the Republic.
She revealed that it took her nearly five years following her chat with her mother to begin hunting for her father.
However, after doing a DNA test, the test proved that she was not Peter Ala Adjetey’s daughter. Yvonne Nelson further revealed that the disappointing outcome of the DNA test strained her relationship with her mother.
Mr. Nelson died in 2017, and the actress did not even attend his funeral since she believed he did not care about her.
The actress however took the opportunity to apologise to him in her book.
2. Iyanya cheating on her with Tonto Dikeh
Her revelation that her ex-boyfriend, Iyanya cheated on her with Tonto Dikeh sent the internet into a frenzy.
In a chapter headed “Iyanya and My Love Life,” the actress discussed her adventures with Iyanya and how she subsequently discovered he was cheating on her with other women.
Nelson stated that she believed the singer’s gesture of tattooing her initials “YN” on his waist and giving her a shoutout on his popular song ‘Ur Waist’ was a guarantee that they would be together forever.
She was stunned, she added, when someone contacted her from Iyanya’s residence after she returned to Ghana and told her the awful news.

4. Her encounter with Genevieve
In the 14th chapter titled “Genevieve Nnaji and the Rest”, Yvonne Nelson details her experience working with Genevieve Nnaji. She talked about how great it was to work with the veteran actress on the set of the 2008 Ikechukwu Onyeka-directed film, To Love And To Cherish.
5. Her encounters with Nigerian men
In a chapter of her book, Yvonne investigates allegations of actresses and performers being sold to Nigeria’s financial and political elites.
In chapter 13 of her book, She detailed how influential men at the helm of various spheres in Nigeria sought to exploit her through close friends she likens to pimps.
On three separate occasions which she decided to share, the encounters were on a different scale than she had ever envisioned.
Her first encounter with a Nigerian man was a governor of one of the states in the country. Although the encounter was short-lived, she came out ($5,000) N3.4m richer.
